“Who’s that Jess,” you say? I know you are asking, otherwise you wouldn’t be here – on my website. The answer to that isn’t quite so simple. Like anything else, people are multi-faceted and there are different layers to dissect when figuring out who a person is. I’m not one specific thing, so why should my blog be about one thing in particular?

I’m a firm believer that you are the collected works of everything you’ve ever been through, experienced, and read – all of these things, little pieces to the puzzle that eventually becomes the picture that is your life. While you don’t always get to decide what happens to you in life, you do get to decide how you react and then how you narrate the story after the fact.

So this blog is whatever I want it to be, the narration of my life and experiences, and other things that make my heart happy. Not all of my experiences are glamorous or awe-inspiring. There’s been a lot of struggle and pain that has since made my happiness that much more wonderful.

Without my past experiences, failures, and hard-taught lessons, I wouldn’t be the person I am today, and neither would you. So own your past and celebrate your present.

“Standing broad-shouldered next to her was a love that was really something, not just the idea of something. May your heart remain breakable, but never by the same hand twice. Without your past, you could never have arrived, so wondrously and brutally, by design or some violent, exquisite happenstance… here.”

Hello, I’m Jess!

I have a lot of hobbies that I enjoy doing, but wouldn’t consider myself a master of any of them, really. A Jess of all trades, if you will.

I have two cats (Milo & Twila) that are spoiled and far more photogenic than I am.

I love books and enjoy collecting memorable quotes from them.

Cooking and baking are a delight to my heart. I’ve come a long way in my kitchen skills since going gluten and dairy free.

I’m a Hufflepuff through and through and will kill you with kindness, ALWAYS. (Like my reference there?)

Taylor Swift is my favorite human being I’ve never met and I hope to one day change that fact (fingers crossed!).

I’m an OR nurse and love it immensely! I’ve seen and learned so many interesting things working in the OR. I do sometimes wish I had gone into zoology so I could work at the Australia Zoo with the Irwins, though.

“Words are, in my not-so-humble opinion, our most inexhaustible source of magic. Capable of both inflicting injury, and remedying it.”

Meet the Crew

This is my OG, Milo.

I rescued Milo when he was only a few months old. He was found all alone outside of a local fast food restaurant.

He’s the sweetest cat, a real love bug. He is very vocal, especially when he’s hungry and telling me all about it. He plays fetch and loves being outside on our porch.

House plants beware… Milo loves to chomp on anything green and leafy!

Since moving to Florida, I’ve discovered he’s an excellent lizard hunter.

This elusive man is Charles.

He’s my boyfriend and the king of my heart. Four states, three moves, two pets, one amazing guy.

Charles is my handyman and capable of doing anything, I’m convinced.

He’s an engineer and loves building things. Taking things apart and putting them back together again is his idea of a fun weekend project.

Lover of power tools, trucks, his Jeep Comanche, bicycles, cargo shorts with plenty of pockets, New Balance shoes (elderly gentleman style), Milo, efficiency, Fritos Scoops, and Mexican food in general.

He makes amazing Cuban coffee. But don’t ask him to make you anything else in the kitchen, trust me.

This striking cat is Twila.

She’s more commonly known in my house as “Twilla” because of her sass.

I rescued Twila a year after Milo, from under a shed outside my then apartment complex.

Twila doesn’t always meow like a normal cat, she “meeps.” I find it quite adorable.

She loves toy mice and makes a unique sound when she’s caught one and wants to tell me how great of a hunter she is.

“I once believed love would be burning red, but it’s golden like daylight.”

Quarantine Crafting: Social Isolation Arts and Crafts – Bilbo Baggins Style.

Ever since I was a young teenager, I’ve loved the Lord of the Rings books and movies. I used to spend entire weekends shut up in my room reading the books. It’s a classic good-triumphing-over-evil story that takes place in a mystical world with elves, hobbits, and magic. What’s not to love? Ok fine, it … Continue reading Quarantine Crafting: Social Isolation Arts and Crafts – Bilbo Baggins Style.
